threadripper pro and multiple rtx3090 build for resolve and Nuke.

I'm curious what would the recommendation be for such a system? Its hard to find a lot of info for these really high end machines unless one goes to a company that builds them.

The main benefit of PRO vs non-PRO Threadrippers is the added 8-channel RAM and twice the # of pcielanes. You can also add up to 2TB of RAM. The PRO variants, though, are also slightly slower than the non-pro.

So if you don't need the PRO-Features, I'd definitely opt for a non-pro. 256GB of RAM seems sufficient to me, you don't need 128 pcielanes for 2 GPUs, and 8-channel ram only gets you marginal speedups in your workloads.

A 3960X or 3970X seems like the better choice to me.

Add in two rtx 3090 blower style GPUs, a couple of pcie4 nvme ssds, a 1600W PSU, a motherboard such as the ASRock TRX40 Creator or GIGABYTE TRX40 Designare and you're looking at great nuke/resolve performance.

Hi Alex Sorry I jumped in here. My name is Michael Sprunt. I'm a Computer Dummy. I am trying to learn about these computers. But what you just described is a machine I would like to build. Or have built for me. Because that is allot of money to just screw something up and not get what I want. The TRX40 Creator by ASRock. It has at least 2 Thunderbolt USB's Those are the 3.2 Gen 2 Type "C"as well as 3.1 Gen 1 Type "A" 10 GB & 5 GB USB's . Also I want a RTX3090 with a Threaddripper or a Ryzen 9. I need your help here. What would be a good Threaddripper to use for compatibility and not to overheat or have bottlenecking or any problems. This is where I loose it. For storage .I want lots. 2x2TB SSD Samsung 908 I think they are. Plus 16 TB HDD. Now .Alex can you tell me a good mix with the same Motherboard TRX40 Creator by ASRock and a good Threaddripper or a ryzen 9 + the RTX 3090 + wifi6 & BlueTooth anything for recording music Cubase 11 and doing video and movie editing and playing games as well. So I want both. A workhorse that can play lots of good games plus store lots of information for movie clips . Music clips and songs and needs plenty of storage. + Windows Pro. The Ram I want half of the Full Ram is. So if the Full ram is 250 GB. Then I want half of that to start with. 125 GB ram then. If it is 64 GB. Then I want 32 GB ram. Half of the full ram. Yeah I will go with the 3970x and two rtx3090 GPUs. Is there a way to see all the components I would need in the pc builder system you have? Or do I just go by the CPU you mentioned and switch out the GPUs the pc builder puts in there?

The PC Builder is meant for easy recommendations, and not really for customization all that much. You can head over to pcpartpicker which is a great site for full customization. But, yes, in general you just pick your CPU, a good motherboard (e.g. Asrock TRX40 taichi) and add your RTX 3090s, though they should be blower style so you don't encounter heat issues.
