Big thx first to your site, which I used to build a new Win 10 PC last year for photo editing.
Now I want to edit video clips in like 2 to 3 dozens HDV tapes of family taken with a Sony HDV camcorder like 10 years ago. Wonder what hardware/software I need? Toyed with idea of buying a Sony HDV deck but it seems those are all, understandably, discontinued. May make do with the HDV camcorder which still worked last time I checked like 2 years ago. It has an iLink output. My PC mobo has no iLink port, which from what I read is same as firewire. Should I just buy a firewire card for PC? What editing software would you recommend? What video format should I use to keep the videos for permanent archiving if there is a choice in the editing software? HDV itself or have it converted into something else for storage? Should I convert it into something like AVCHD for easier editing in future?
Many thanks and sorry for noob questions.
