Hi guys,
Similar to the pc builder tool feedback thread, I thought it might be cool to have a section to give feedback regarding the forum 🤓

Here go my 2 cents:

1) I don't understand the difference between the "software and workloads" section and the "new pc builds + hardware advice and planning".
If the first is aimed to give advice in building a pc for a specific software and workload wouldn't it be better to move everything from "new pc..." to "soft..." and simply delete tbe first one in order to keep everything more organized? Maybe you could add an "all rounder" section or something similar for people who doesn't know exactly what will be using his/her setup for.

2) Some people seems to be not understanding the forum structure and where should they be posting at all 🙄. Maybe you could add and pin example posts at the top of every section in order for people to use them as reference to understand where to post, also reducing the amount of needed moderation.

Needless to say, I love this space. You've came to a wonderfull ressult. This are just minor sugestions.

Cheers!

Hey and thanks for your feedback! Much appreciated.

I understand what you mean. What I had in mind was that the "Software and Workloads" would discuss anything but hardware. Like how to optimize a renderer or tips on improving video editing workflow, or what plugin everyone is using in maya.

While the Hardware -> New PC-Builds Planning... really is just for hardware for any kind of workload.

The original reasoning for this was: What if someone wants to build a pc for gaming and 3d modeling? Do they post into gaming or 3d modeling? That's why we thought just one general build category would make more sense.

Obviously if no one understands this, it doesn't make sense :D

How do you think can we improve this?

Totally agree on that one.

Okay. Then the "software and workloads" section makes absolute sense. The problem is that it seems like most people aren't understanding it the right way.
Gotta admit that, up until I read your comment, I thought that cgdirector was a hardware only forum and, maybe, that's why people are mostly posting build related questions on the "software and workloads" section.
I think that a solution could be to add a small description of what should be posted in each section. Maybe a "thread creation guidelines" thread pinned so everyone can (and, ideally, has to...) read it before posting.
Another option could be to rename the section (section? forum? I don't know the proper way to call it 😅) in a way that clearly states that the section is about software and how do we work inside the software itself, and not a "specilized builds section ". I can only think of "Software and Workflow talk" now but I suck at names.

DISCLAIMER: I know nothing about forum creation and management 😆

Thanks I agree it only makes sense if everyone understands it. I'll think about how we can clarify this! Good suggestions, keep em coming if you have any more :)
